adidas Originals by Human Made Introduces the Tokio Solar HM

Visionary creative and archivist NIGO joins adidas for the adidas by Human Made collection. NIGO’s eye for heritage apparel is channeled through Human Made’s designs for adidas, which include references to NIGO’s personal collection, and nods to vintage sporting silhouettes.

A special graphic logo can be found throughout, created by the Human Made team exclusively for the adidas by Human Made collection. The partnership aims to look towards the future of creation under the message “Future is in the past.”

The first delivery includes two footwear silhouettes, arriving in the form of a running silhouette, the Tokio Solar HM, and a court sneaker, the UNOFCL HM, while running-inspired apparel and graphic T-shirts round out the capsule.

The footwear highlight is the Tokio Solar HM, which takes inspirational cues from the adidas archive at the brand’s global headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany, and more specifically the “TOKIO” trainer.

The “TOKIO” trainer was released in 1962 for the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The model returns for 2020, equipped with a cushioned Boost sole. The modern Primeknit upper contrasts with the heritage-inspired suede T-toe and mudguard details, as well as the X heel reinforcement. The iconic Human Made heart logo appears as an embossed heel patch on both shoes.

With the Tokio Solar HM being the hero shoe, Nigo’s art direction for the accompanying campaign takes inspiration from the Japanese art form of Kabuki and features Kabuki actor Toranosuke Nakamura.

adidas Originals by Human Made is launch at J-01 on 25 September.
